The Hunt is definitely a book that is hard to put down. Between the tantalizing sex scenes that leave you squirming in your seat, action packed hunt and fights scenes, and all the espionage and conniving between old enemies and new foes, everything in this piece intertwines to make reading The Hunt a delight. As a twist in The Hunt, each seethe member reveals their own perspective of the plot as it quickly moves along, a challenge to write, I'm sure.
It makes me wonder, will the next chapter in Vivian and Rafe's life be a book about their vacation home? I can only hope!

Vivian, a former enforcer for the Tribunal, and her husband, Rafe, have organized a hunt. It will provide extra money for her V V Inn staff employees, as well as an opportunity to investigate who on the Tribunal wants her dead. Now supernatural predators were flying in from all over to participate in the hunt that would result in viciously killing one of their own kind who had been sentenced to death. The Tribunal would be providing that convicted rogue for the purpose of the hunt. In the meantime, Vivian leads the meeting for the seethe members to discuss the dossiers on the hunters provided by Cy as well as to review the preparation and assignment of tasks during the hunt.
The meet and greet in the hotel lobby was an excellent way to introduce us and give further information on the characters who would be participating. When Coraline arrived from the Tribunal with the criminal, the hatred between Coraline and Vivian was palpable. The display of power by Coraline made others in the room actually sicken with nausea. Vivian keeps her own power closely held back. But the reader can feel that there will be a major clash between the two at some point in the future.
Meanwhile, Joanna, one of Vivian’s group, is acting strangely. She tries to seduce one of Vivian’s young vampire employees and the taste of Vivian’s blood mixed with his intoxicates her with the need for more of Vivian’s power. She almost drains the young vampire in her lust for that power. In the ensuing fight, the unthinkable happens!
It was a bit disconcerting for me switching POV through each chapter while tracking the action going on. But the story was well written and moved along briskly. I liked the fact that there was so much intrigue going on. It definitely kept the interest at high level! I would recommend this book; it was worth reading. I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.
I'm really enjoying the V. V. Inn series, and I'm glad that I picked them up. Story wise, the details for the characters, the dialogue, all very entertaining, fun, and sometimes sexy!
I only gave The Hunt 3 stars, compared to the 4 I gave Vampire Vacation and Death's Servant, because of the change in POV. It was still first person, personally I have no preference on that regard, but it was from multiple character's perspectives. Normally this doesn't bother me at all. I've read many like that, and I did have warning about this change, but there were just too many. Two, three perspectives at most is good; easy to keep up and keep separate. However, Ellisson juggles SIX people's perspectives here. It gets rather jumbled at times, trying to keep track. I felt like if it had been maybe Vivian and Rafe or even Vivian, Rafe, and Jon then it would have been simpler. That being said, if you didn't have to stop during a chapter and could wait till the end of one it did make it much easier as each chapter was a different perspective. The one plus I found to the way Ellisson wrote the perspectives out was that there was never a repeat of a scene, so the perspective changes were usually pretty smooth auth the story picking up in the same spot just from a new person's POV.
I did really love the storyline for this book. Possibly more than the first. Ever think about vampires needing a vacation? Well fear not, they do. Go ahead and read book one. But now let's take it one step further. It's not just a vampire vacation, it's vampires vacationing with a sanctioned vampire hunt! That's awesome! So, as with the first book, there's danger, because well they *are* hunting another vampire, but that's not the only danger afoot. The intrigue surrounding the politics, if you will, of vampire hierarchy brings it's own dangers.
This book had a lot less of the sexy scenes, but they weren't really necessary to set the mood in this installment as they were in the first. I missed them a little, because well I like that sort of thing, but the story moved right along beautifully regardless.
